Memories of Summer Meadows and the Scent of Dried Herbs
She had gray hair braided into a thick braid and walked as if she didn't want to trample the conversation between the leaves and the wind. Mrs. Latkowska was already retired and lived next door, in the same teacher's house we had just moved into. It was an old manor house, with crooked stairs and creaking parquet floors, converted into apartments for teachers. My mother got a job there and a place to live. And I—as a gift—got those summer afternoons with her. We walked through the meadows behind the house, gathering wild mint, mullein, and coltsfoot leaves. She taught me which plants were best dried in books, and which ones were best to simply smell and memorize. She said that herbs could speak if you had ears to listen. Back to Childhood, where every herb had its own story… It was then that this quiet admiration for nature was born within me. And perhaps that's why today, after all these years, I return to these memories in my new collection: Vintage Herbarium.
