Luxury Christmas Décor You Can Make by Hand
Do you love Christmas crafts that look high-end but are easy to make? This elegant ornament project might be your new favorite! Using clay molds, antique paints, and a few sparkling touches, you’ll create a double-sided floral ornament that looks like hand-painted porcelain.
Our creative friend Donna from Mason Creations etc. walks us through this stunning step-by-step tutorial that transforms everyday materials into a glamorous heirloom-style decoration.
Watch the video below to see how she does it.
Step 1 – Mold and Shape the Ornament
Donna begins by pressing Das clay into a decorative mold to create two identical halves. After freezing them for easy release, she glues the pieces together while still damp, ensuring they dry evenly into one solid shape. She sands and smooths the edges, filling any seams with texture paste for a flawless join.
Step 2 – Paint and Seal the Base
Once dry, the ornament is coated in Pentart Gold paint, which gives complete coverage in a single coat. After an hour of drying, Donna seals the piece with Polyvine Heavy Duty Wood Varnish in a satin finish for durability and subtle shine.
Step 3 – Add Antique Depth
To create a rich, vintage look, she mixes Pentart Blue and Black paints into an antique glaze and brushes it over the molded details. Wiping away the excess leaves color in the crevices, revealing texture and depth. A second coat of Polyvine varnish seals the aged effect.
Step 4 – Make Porcelain-Style Flowers
Donna revives old paper flowers by dipping them into Polyvine varnish and brushing off the excess. Once dry, they become shiny, stiff, and slightly translucent—resembling porcelain petals. After a second coat, she adds antique washes in purple and blue, achieving a marbled, aged finish.
Step 5 – Add Shimmer and Rhinestones
Each petal edge gets a light brushing of Redesign Eternal Gold Wax, followed by rhinestones attached with varnish for extra sparkle. The shimmer perfectly complements the antique tones, giving the flowers a refined, luxurious finish.
Step 6 – Assemble and Finish
Using hot glue, Donna layers the flowers onto both sides of the gold ornament, filling gaps with additional rhinestones for a dazzling effect. A Bowdabra-made ribbon bow and gold cord hanger complete the piece, creating a handmade ornament that looks ready for a designer boutique.
This breathtaking project proves that simple materials can create extraordinary results.
