The Dreamiest Angel Ornament You’ll Ever Make
Have you ever wondered how to turn a plain wooden cutout into something magical? Donna from Mason Creations etc. shows how to create a stunning Moon Angel Ornament—a dreamy, frosty keepsake that glows with holiday charm. Watch her full tutorial video below to follow along!
Donna begins by gluing two MDF cutouts together for extra sturdiness before painting both sides white with Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Cotton—the secret to keeping your rice paper colors bright and crisp. She then applies a beautiful Christmas rice paper from DecoupageNapkins.com using Polyvine Heavy Duty Wood Varnish (Dead Flat Finish) as her adhesive. This professional varnish doubles as both glue and sealer, drying crystal clear and fully curing in under a week.
After trimming the edges with sandpaper for a wrinkle-free finish, she adds delicate silver shading using shimmer ink and stencils a raised snowflake on the back with texture paste and pearlescent paint. For sculptural details, Donna presses Das air-dry clay into molds, freezes them briefly for easy release, and glues them around the hanger to create elegant curves and scrolls. Once dry, she paints the accents with Pentart Silver Paint, antiquing them with a soft gray glaze for dimension, and sealing with Polyvine Satin Varnish for a smooth surface.
To bring the moon angel medallion to life, Donna paints it in gentle shades of Pentart Country Blue, Rose, Butter, and White Coffee, then dry brushes with Dixie Belle’s Cotton and Pearlescent Glaze for a misty, frosted glow. She finishes by trimming the edges in silver loops, gluing the medallion to the center, and tying perfect bows with her Mini Bowdabra.
The result is a romantic ornament that looks hand-sculpted and luminous under holiday lights—ideal for gift giving or decorating your own tree.
