Welcome, crafters! Mason jars are a fantastic way to enhance your home decor, serving as the perfect canvas for your creative projects. Today, we’re diving into a delightful decoupage project with the expertise of our special affiliate, Donna from Mason Creations Etc. Donna has created a stunning mason jar set perfect for any bathroom. This project requires some basic crafting skills and a touch of creativity. Watch the video below for Donna's step-by-step tutorial and follow along with the instructions here.

Step-by-Step Mason Jar Decoupage Tutorial

Step 1: Preparation Start by cleaning your mason jars with alcohol to remove any dirt or fingerprints. A clean surface ensures better adhesion for both paint and glue. Apply a coat of Polyvine Multi-surface Lacquer, which acts as a primer, giving the glass a surface that paint and glue will stick to.

Step 2: Painting Paint your jars with Dixie Belle white chalk paint, applying two coats for full coverage. Be cautious not to paint the threads on the jar intended for a soap dispenser, ensuring the pump lid fits correctly.

Step 3: Decoupaging Choose a beautiful napkin for your design. Separate the top printed layer from the other layers. Using Polyvine’s Decorators Varnish as an adhesive, place the napkin on the jar and brush the adhesive from the center outward. This method helps reduce wrinkles and bubbles. Use a water brush to tear the napkin edges for easier blending.

Step 4: Adding Clay Decorations To add a decorative touch, create braids using Das Air Dry Clay and Redesign with Prima molds. Glue these clay braids to the tops and bottoms of the jars. If the pieces don't fit perfectly, angle cut the ends to blend the seams. Once dry, paint the clay with a mix of paints which blend into the napkin's design.

Step 5: Protecting the Design Apply Polyvine Heavy-duty Wood Varnish to all painted areas, providing a gloss finish and water resistance. This is crucial for bathroom items exposed to moisture. For an added touch, use Pentart’s Fineline Crackle varnish to create a crackle effect on the napkin areas, followed by Pentart Antique Paste to highlight the cracks.

Step 6: Final Touches Enhance the jars further by adding a bronze chain along the edges of the braids. Clean any excess paint inside the jars. For the lids, decoupage pieces of napkin and apply the same crackle and antique finish. Attach diamond-like cabinet knobs to the lids with strong glue, adding a touch of elegance.

Step 7: Highlighting and Assembling Use a metallic rub in white gold to highlight the braids and chain, giving a warmer tone to the design. Assemble the soap pump lids and apply the finishing touches to complete your beautiful mason jar set.
