Fun and Easy Halloween Mixed Media Projects

Hey crafters! Halloween is just around the corner, and we're here to help you spookify your home decor. Our friend Donna from Mason Creations etc., created this amazing haunted mansion project, and she's walking us through each step. It's so easy, your kids can even help!

Donna started with a simple wooden haunted mansion blank and transformed it into a masterpiece with stencils, pre-mixed grout, and paint. The bricks look like they've been abandoned for years, but you can use modeling paste or caulking instead of grout if you don't have any on hand. DecoupageNapkins.com has top-notch modeling clay for all your crafty needs!

Of course, no haunted mansion is complete without ghosts, bats, and jack-o'-lanterns. Donna used air-dry clay to create these spooky embellishments, and she even fashioned a full moon from a wooden blank. Every little detail adds to the chilling atmosphere.

To give the mansion an aged and haunting look, Donna used different shades of gray paint and a wet sea sponge to create a mottled appearance. It adds depth and character, and makes the mansion look like it's stood the test of time (or should I say, haunted time?).

Once the paint is dry, it's important to seal the art piece to protect it and make it last for many Halloweens to come. Donna used Polyvine Decorators Varnish in a dead flat finish to give the bricks a creepy matte look. This UV, heat, and water-resistant varnish is available at DecoupageNapkins.com.

Now it's time for the fun part: the spooky embellishments! Donna used air-dry clay to craft adorable bats, ghosts, and a classic jack-o'-lantern, adding depth and dimension to the mansion. For a rustic look, rub some antiquing wax from DecoupageNapkins.com over the embellishments.

Finally, don't forget the moonlit backdrop! Donna used a wooden coaster blank and pale yellow paint to create a moon that illuminates the haunted mansion. It's the perfect finishing touch.

After you've attached all the embellishments, your haunted mansion is complete! It's ready to chill the bravest of souls, with its eerie ghouls and bats taking flight against the moonlit sky. Display it proudly in your home this Halloween, and enjoy the compliments from your trick-or-treaters.
