Transform a Wood Slice into a Cherished Christmas Keepsake

Transform a Wood Slice into a Cherished Christmas Keepsake

The holiday season is the perfect time to fill your home with meaningful decorations that capture the magic of the moment. Crafting a personalized Christmas ornament is a wonderful way to create something truly unique, adding a heartfelt touch to your seasonal decor. In Donna’s latest tutorial from Mason Creations etc., you’ll learn how to make a charming Teddy Bear ornament that’s both simple and stunning. Watch the video below and follow along to bring this festive project to life!

Step 1: Prep Your Wood Slice

Start with a natural wood slice as your base. Paint the center with Dixie Belle chalk paint in Cotton white. Donna explains that the white base makes your rice paper design pop, avoiding a muddy appearance.

Step 2: Prepare Your Rice Paper

Using a Teddy Bear-themed rice paper from DecoupageNapkins.com, gently tear the edges with a water brush. This technique creates a soft, blendable edge, perfect for seamless decoupage.

Step 3: Adhere the Rice Paper

Spray your rice paper with a light mist of water to make it pliable. Apply Polyvine Decorators Varnish (dead flat finish) to the wood slice as your adhesive. Place the rice paper on the prepared surface, smoothing out bubbles with a soft brush.

Step 4: Seal and Protect

Once the adhesive dries, apply three coats of Polyvine Heavy Duty Varnish in satin finish, letting each coat dry for an hour. This step protects the ornament and adds a subtle sheen, ensuring durability.

Step 5: Decorate the Back

Donna enhances the back of the ornament with beautiful texture using transfer gel and gold foil. She starts by applying the gel through a stencil, secured with Pixie Spray to ensure it stays in place. Once the gel dries to a sticky finish, she presses gold foil onto the surface, creating a striking metallic shimmer. To seal and protect the design, she applies three coats of Polyvine Heavy Duty Varnish in satin finish, allowing each coat to dry for an hour.

Step 6: Add Golden Accents

Highlight the edges of the bark with Redesign Decor Wax in Eternal gold, applied with your fingertip for precision. Buff the wax after 30 minutes to achieve a brilliant shine.

Step 7: Finish with a Bow

Craft a rustic bow using burlap ribbons and a mini Bowdabra. Attach it to the top of the ornament with hot glue and add a gold cord for hanging. The combination of textures ties the project together beautifully.

This charming Teddy Bear ornament makes a thoughtful gift or a delightful addition to your tree. Don't forget to stock up on all the supplies featured in this tutorial from DecoupageNapkins.com. Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter for 10% off your next order!
